PRIDE AND PASSION is a good story, and it is an asset to the Decades’ series. Author, Carla Buchanan, presents an admirable and well- written story depicting history and romance in the Fifties. One of the best features of this story is that it extends throughout the fifties. The main characters, Constance Ray and Nathaniel Kelly’s journey begins in 1951 in Perlshaw, Georgia and depicts the devastating affects of the Korean War on a small town family. The story arc also includes unforgettable historical events of that decade like the tragic Emmitt Till’s murder, and Rosa Parks’ pivotal role in the Civil Rights struggle that led to Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. and the Montgomery Bus Boycott. It is a story of a decade that highlights a proud people with a passion to be treated like first- class citizens. Nathaniel and Constance have to overcome some serious and complicated personal issues that hinder them from being together as a couple, so their HEA is gratifying. PRIDE AND PASSION is an engaging story and I recommend it. It’s the sixth story of the Decades: A Journey of African American Romance Series, and it’s great story for a great series.
